The other day I was talking to someone about kitchens.
No surprise there.
What was surprising were a couple of stats that came out of his mouth:
Give or take, there are a million kitchens sold in the UK every year.
Of those one million kitchens, 850,000 of them are sold by the big chains, like Wren and B&Q.
I have it on good authority that these stats are accurate. But, even if they’re a rough estimate, at 85%, that’s pretty shocking!
You see, when I speak to most KBB retailers, too often, they see their competitor as the other independent down the road, not the big shed on the retail park.
There’s another idea that does the rounds – that if someone wants a cheap kitchen, they’ll go to a chain. But, if they’re not a price-shopper, they’ll go to an independent.
If these stats are largely true, it challenges that theory – it must mean that the big sheds are selling bigger and more expensive kitchens than most people expect.
What do you think? How closely do you see yourself in competition with Wren?
And if the stats are correct, and the chains are getting that amount of kitchen business out there, how does that make you feel?
Save that thought.
This is just one part of the topic we’ll be discussing on the next Big KBB Marketing Call – next Friday, 19th March, at 11am on Zoom. To join the discussion, click here to book on for free now.
It’s Content, Conversation & Community, and we hope to see you there.
