Sun Lounger Stimulation

At Inspire KBB we’ve been working so hard these past few weeks, I briefly stopped to look up and was shocked to see it’s August tomorrow!

That means we’re smack bang in the middle of — summer holiday time.

We’ve been fortunate with some good weather over the last few weeks (yesterday excluded!), but now the children are off, the flip-flops purchased and the time by the pool or beach starts in earnest.

And I don’t doubt that you’ve earned it too!

If you’re anything like me, after a couple of days with your feet up, you’ll start to yearn for some entertainment or stimulation. That’s why I’ve posted this blog.

You see, at Inspire HQ, we’ve put our heads together and come up with the 2019 Inspired Summer Book Review – a recommended reading list for long days by the pool or beach, or maybe just those snatched moments when the rest of the family are occupied.

I asked the team for recommendations, and what came back was a fantastic list of books - some fiction, some non-fiction, some business.

So, if you’re heading into WH Smith, or logging onto Amazon soon, I suggest checking out some of the books below – I can vouch for those who recommended them.  (Well, most of them 🙂)

Whatever you’re doing over the next few weeks, we hope you have a fantastic summer.

Here’s the list:

The People’s Songs by Stuart Maconie

Recommended by Andrew Harding – Client Strategy Director

The story of modern Britain in 50 songs. A tour of our island’s pop music and the songs that have sound-tracked our changing times. A celebration of the music that has defined us.  A brilliant read!

This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay

Recommended by Chloe Dunn – Operations Coordinator

Laugh-out-loud funny and also heartbreakingly sad. The ups and downs of a Junior doctor – a real eye-opener into the NHS that left me feeling rather proud!

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman

Recommended by Sarah Clark, Office Administrator

A wonderful book about a woman who leads a happy yet simple life. Nothing is missing except, sometimes, everything. The perfect tale of how change can be good. Change can be bad. However, surely any change is better than … fine? One for the ladies!

The One Thing.jpg

The One Thing – Gary Keller

Recommended by Nadine Cameron, Creative & Web Designer

Ideal for those who want to achieve fewer distractions and less on their plate but also more productivity and more income for a better lifestyle. This book proves you can have both – Less and More.

The Kite Runner – Khaled Hosseini

Recommended by Charlotte Turnbull, Senior Project Manager

A remarkable story of friendship and betrayal during the turbulent Afghanistan war. If you have an interest in war history, this is the book for you! The author tells the story of his own experience in 1970s Afghanistan and what it was like to grow up in an environment where every day brought uncertainty and his relentless fight for a new world.

This book is a real tearjerker but brings a whole new meaning to friendship. Warning … you’ll want to read this book over and over again!

Profit First.jpg

Profit First – Mike Michalowicz

Recommended by David Barker, Managing Director

From the opening pages of the first chapter, I wished this book had found me years ago!

Bucking the standard accounting principle, Mike Michalowicz has developed a behavioural approach to business: Sales - Profit = Expenses.

Take profit first and restrict yourself to only what remains for expenses; you can transform your business from cash-eating monster to profitable cash cow – a life-changing formula.
